One Word That Will Motivate You This Week

Each week is a fresh start - a chance to reset, refocus, and realign. Some of us spend the day in Worship; some enjoy time with family before the work and school week kicks back up; some of us just like to REST and recharge after a social weekend.

One way to anchor yourself in all the things that life has is by choosing a word - One Word - to guide your thoughts and actions. This is a concept that I adopted from author Jon Gordon and have been practicing for about 7-8 years now. However, for the sake of getting started I would recommend trying out just for this week - or even the upcoming month.

This is called the One Word Challenge.

The idea is simple: pick a word that reflects what you need most right now. Your word becomes your focus, a compass for decision making, and a reminder to stay intentional as you go about the ebbs and flows of your day.

For example, I'll take you through a brief history of a few words I've selected over time to guide me throughout recent years:

😌HUMILITY - this was my very first word I selected for The Challenge. I was a young, twenty-something first time corporate woman, and Humility is what I got! Anchoring myself on humility caused me to break a lot of mental strongholds preventing me from excelling to my full potential. It is NOT for the weak and I am grateful that I learned early how to be humble.

👯COMMUNITY - As I continued to grow in my faith and pursue God more intimately, I realized I needed to switch up my circle! I started to seek individuals and groups that would produce fertile soil for me to continue to grow and produce good fruit. This actually led me to join my home church, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. I serve on the Media Ministry, Fitness Ministry, and enjoy attending our "Life on Life" Bible Study. And it's been up ever since!

🙏FAITH - Once I settled into my community, I asked God to increase my faith as I seek to become a better Disciple. In my experience, I quickly learned that in order to have faith, you have to go through faith-producing situations! So if you are currently in a stormy season of life, about to be in a stormy season, or coming out of one - I suggest anchoring yourself on faith. Pray He keeps His hand on your life and watch in all the ways He does.

So what's your word?

Take a moment to think about what you need in this season. If you're not sure where to start, here are some ideas:

- If you want to nurture relationships, maybe consider anchoring on LOVE

- If you're craving an extra push to power through procrastination, try DISCIPLINE

-If you need to calm your mind and increase your focus past all understanding, consider PEACE.

But if you can't pinpoint just one word, and you feel overwhelmed in more areas than one and you need to establish a firm foundation to even build upon, there's one word above all that I suggest: JESUS. He is your Provider (Jehovah Jireh), Your Healer (Jehovah Shalom), and Your Way Maker (Jehovah Nissi).

You might be wondering, "What does this have to do with my workouts?" Everything. How we move, eat, and care for our bodies is connected to how we see ourselves and our purpose. When you're centered - whether it's through discipline, peace, or Jesus Himself - you show up differently. You push through hard days with intention. You approach your goals with clarity.

So, what's your word this week? Write it down, keep it in front of you, and let it guide you. And remember: I am here to cheer you on every step of the way.
